TAIPEI (Reuters) - Two decades after letting its people and companies go to China, Taiwan is opening itself to Chinese investors and visitors -- a move that could carry big economic dividends but also one fraught with political risk.

By opening itself to a flood of Chinese tourists and investment dollars, Taiwan is exposing its markets, economy and political and social systems to huge influence from its much larger neighbor and political rival.

Some forecast the injection of new activity could boost Taiwan's laggard economy by as much 2 percentage points


LONDON: A wave of job cuts in the wake of the financial markets meltdown is causing hundreds of City bankers to turn to UK charities in search of work. Charities are keen to hire the former star bankers to help them raise funds and are able to pay better salaries than in the past, said forum3, a recruitment agency.
Charities need good quality skills, the right attitude ... it is an increasingly professional sector, Deborah Hockham, a director at forum3, said. Nearly 500 bankers looking for a job in the sector had approached the group over the past few weeks, a 30% increase from the year-ago period, forum3 said
